CAFÉ DES ARTISTES - THE RESTAURANT
Opening in November 1995, we can describe Casa Mexicana as seven joyous years of art, culture and
cuisine - where at Café des
Artistes all ingredients from fresh fruit and vegetables, to meat, fish,
chicken and desserts are hand-picked and freshly selected daily to
assure the quality desired by executive chef/owner Teresa Martinez. From
her training at New York's Macrobiotic Center, she learned to combine
foods and balance ingredients for satisfaction through all your senses.
Dishes, that literally camera carrying visitors have photographed at
their table to take home, and try to replicate their culinary experience
in Pozos. "Every dish is like a painting to me", says Teresa, "and it
must have a perfect balance of color, textures and flavor". Here are
some of her house specials:
-
Cold Gazpacho with Avocado & Shrimp.
-
Fried Banana Rounds wrapped in smokey
bacon with guacamole.
-
Grilled fresh salmon fillet with sesame
crust.
-
Cold curry chicken salad served with the
now famous strawberry rice.
-
And her Casa Mexicana soup also called
Christmas Soup.
At Café des Artistes we feed you through all your senses, and living up
to it's name, we feature Mexican dishes once served by cult-artist Frida
Kahlo to her beloved Diego. Some of
these dishes include:
Some of these dishes have been inspired by Frida's recipes, available in
the book titled "LAS FIESTAS DE FRIDA Y DIEGO" by Guadalupe Rivera
Marin.
Or you can eat according to Pablo Picasso's "doctor's orders" diet.
The color green was seldom used by Picasso in his paintings
because he saw it much too often in his meals. Due to a mineral deficiency in
his system, under doctor's orders the artist's diet included lots of
spinach. Here for your enjoyment, a variety of dishes that Picasso would
have loved.

Shrimp/cheese/spinach/mushroom omelet w/tomatoes fresh basil and olive
oil.
-

Breakfast, lunch, or dinner at Café des Artistes is a culinary experience
worth the trip to Pozos.
